Day 279 – Farewell Steve

My first computer was an Apple IIc. Its not the computer I wanted. I really wanted a Commodore 64 but they were too expensive at the time. My uncle was in the computer business selling Apple machines and managed to get his hand on a used IIc which I ended up getting for Christmas. As it turns out, this event was to have a big impact on my life as I ended up learning how to programme in BASIC. There were very little applications around for the IIc at the time and games were very expensive. So I ended up writing my own rudimentary games and apps to keep myself entertained.

After the IIc, I moved on to other machines and spent many years in the wilderness writing software for PC’s. Funny thing is I always had a fondness for Apple machines and when the first iMac came out I caught the bug again. Since then I have been almost 100% Mac based and have never looked back.

Wether you are an Apple fan or not, there is no denying that Steve Jobs and his design philosophies have had a huge impact on the computing and technology sector and in more recent years the consumer electronics and entertainment sector. For super geeks Apple products might have been a little limited, but there is no doubt that Steve Jobs had a vision of what people wanted and what their user experience should be like. I think he got it bang on most of the time.

An Icon has passed, but the world is definitely a different place because of him. Thank you Steve, R.I.P.

BTW this is a shot of the illuminated Apple symbol on the back of my Macbook Air.
